Did you know?

LIDAR is at the heart of major archaeological discoveries! Archaeologists have discovered nearly 500 new Mesoamerican sites built by the Maya and Olmec in Mexico thanks to the revolutionary technology of LIDAR.

Indeed, the LIDAR is a device that can be carried on a plane and has the particularity of being able to carry out scans thanks to laser impulses. These impulses, very powerful, are able to cross the vegetation and thus to expose archaeological vestiges hidden in the tropical jungle!

A scientific mission has used this technique to create a three-dimensional map of an 80,000 km² area around Tabasco, a state in southeastern Mexico, and have discovered nearly 500 new Mesoamerican sites.
